THE ART FAIRS CALENDAR / MELBOURNE

Art fairs and markets in Melbourne

A little more art.
A little more Melbourne.

Explore Melbourne’s artist markets, ceramic fairs, exhibitions and open studios, from Fitzroy and Northcote to Carlton and beyond. Rose St. Artists’ Market offers a regular weekend starting point, while the Royal Exhibition Building hosts larger design markets. Look out for ceramic work in Northcote, makers at Heide in Bulleen and graduate exhibitions in the city. This calendar puts individual dates alongside longer exhibitions so you can plan a short visit or a full day. Use the filters to follow a favourite medium, find free entry or look ahead to next month. Each listing links back to its source and organiser.

A FEW POINTERS BEFORE YOU GO

Make a Melbourne art day of it

A design market offers a broad mix of makers; a dedicated ceramics fair gives you more time with one medium. Open studios let you see individual working spaces. Use the event type filter to choose the format before you work out your route.

Listings cover central and suburban venues, from the Royal Exhibition Building to Northcote and beyond. For an open-studio weekend, check each studio’s address and opening hours. A festival-wide date range does not mean every artist is open for the entire run.

How do I find ceramics and meet the makers?

Choose the ceramics filter for dedicated events, then read the organiser’s exhibitor list. Design and artist markets may also include ceramic work, but a stallholder’s attendance should be confirmed on the specific event’s program. Ask makers about process, intended use and care before buying.

What should I check before buying art?

Ask about materials, dimensions, edition details where relevant, the full price and how the work will get home. Keep the artist’s details and any documentation supplied. Use our first artwork checklist ↗
